Typically post-graduates, nine in ten of Wikipedia's 36,000 volunteer contributors are male and the average age is 26. This lack of variety means the content is not as 'culturally rich' as it could be, says Sue Gardner, Executive Director of the Wikimedia Foundation.

There seems to be a spate of terminal illness hitting the search marketing industry recently. Last week, I wrote that SEO is dead, but search marketing is alive and kicking.

This week, I read that link building is dead and has been usurped by social sharing.

Did Gary Barlow reflect or influence the opinion of the viewing public when he commented that he was starting to find Janet Devlin boring? More than likely, it would be a mixture of the two. Either way, it didn't carry enough weight to impact on the phone voting in Week 6, as Janet was safe for another week. What is interesting when we look at the social media figures for Janet is that her growth in fans on her official channels is starting to slow down, whilst other contestants speed up.

A majority of consumers are uncomfortable with the amount of commercial messages they see on social networks, a large global survey has found. About 57 per cent of social network users in developed countries do not want to engage with brands via social media, according to a new study by TNS, a market research firm owned by WPP, that polled 72,000 consumers in 60 countries.

Multi-admin access coming Q1 2012 for Google+

Brands will have to wait until Q1 next year in order to have multi-admin access on their Google+ Pages, the company announced at the CrushIQ conference yesterday.

Google+ users expressed frustration at this seemingly simple lack of functionality last week when Google launched its Pages project.
