Twitter takes its stall to Cannes to woo advertisers

Twitter does Cannes: billboard proudly displaying the #canneslions hashtag above the Cannes' Palais de Festivals Twitter is hoping to make a splash in at the Cannes international advertising festival this week having had a low key appearance last year.

The feeling looks like it might well be mutual as Jack Dorsey, the Twitter co-founder and executive chairman, is honoured as the media person of the year.

Clickthrough rates significantly undervalue the brand performance of online campaigns, according to a Nielsen study that finds little correlation between the frequently cited metric and offline return on investment.

The study, which combined meta-analysis and modeling from hundreds of marketing campaigns, signals a need for marketers to use other metrics to gauge the effectiveness of online advertising, according to Nielsen.

Facebook has this morning unveiled its London 2012 Olympics page allowing users to explore the games through the social network.

So much has changed since we last prepared for the Olympics. In the Beijing games in China there were barely 100 million Facebook users. Now Facebook closes in on one billion users.
