Google co-founder Larry Page is taking over from Eric Schmidt as chief executive in a surprise management reshuffle, as the company reports strong fourth quarter results, including UK revenues of $878m (£551.4m).

New figures suggest a surge in online sales in December to £6.8bn, with a 7% monthly increase and 25% hike year on year, according to Interactive Media in Retail Group (IMRG) and Capgemini.
