Interesting look here at the four 2012 Republican presidential front runners on Twitter and Facebook. One thing that clearly emerges is that, Ron Paul, the oldest candidate in the race is also the most successful in terms of social media across both social networks.

Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the man who is credited with inventing the world wide web, has added his voice to the chorus of disapproval about the US government’s planned anti piracy legislation Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA).

Google+ passes 90m users, but are people using it?

That’s the question that Business Insider is asking. Google tells us that Google+ is growing very fast and that sign-ups are rocketing. We heard that in December Google+ hit 66.7m users worldwide with 2.6m in the UK. Further we heard that Google+ recorded its second-highest traffic record from users in India for that period, with 4.3 million unique visits, followed by Brazil with 3.6 million.

What does Google's page layout algorithm mean for you?

Last night Google announced a new update to their search algorithm. It will be one of about 500 this year and comes into effect immediately.

The blog post announcing the update does not mention the series of Panda improvements Google has been making in order to combat content farms but the algorithm update is very much of that family. The tweak punishes those webpages who have content that is too difficult to find.

How big will Facebook commerce be this year? Views vary with some arguing that Facebook won’t master social commerce in 2012 while others expect an explosion. However, what we are certain seeing are more interesting examples of F-Commerce such as Heinz joining the social commerce rush as well as Magners cinema chain Odeon.

Social Media: The value of a Like
Adam Woods

The problem with trying to put a monetary value on a “like” is that it tends to inspire either ridicule or disbelief. But surely it’s worth something? It’s not a pretty picture for the future of Earth, but the indications are that ‘The Hitchhiker’s Guide To The Galaxy’ is coming to pass.

Are tablets a revolution in the making, or yet another passing chapter in the gizmo-arena?

G-Slate, Aakash, Arc, Transformer, Thrive, Nook, Iconia, Xoom, Playbook, Galaxy Tab and Flyer - are these the names of forgotten blockbusters or yet-to-be-launched challengers in the automotive segment?

If these aren’t ringing a bell, I could keep rattling off names, but I’ll just stop here and say that the proliferation of tablet PCs is anything but close to softening in the near future. In fact, tablet brands are mounting wave after wave of fresh offensives to an overwhelming tempo as we speak, fighting tooth and nail to get major share in the emerging 'micro' notebook blitzkrieg.

One of the social media success stories of 2011 was easily the photo-sharing app Instagram. Despite only running on Apple ‘iDevices’, Instagram boss Kevin Systrom reckoned he had 16+ million users at Christmas.

The Times considering opening paywall to social media

I’ve written a number of blog posts about how, in my opinion, The Times is missing a trick by making its paywall impermeable to social media or put another way how it is anti-social media.
