The New York Times plans to cut the number of free articles it gives away to readers online from 20 to 10, but crucially the site will still remain open to social media when it comes to sharing.

Social data will define social ROI
Steve Richards

The ability to link a consumer's social data to existing CRM systems – and what you do with that data – is, arguably, the answer to the social ROI question.

Much is talked about social ROI, but in practice, little is being done to any great effect. The technology is there. It is possible, and reasonably straightforward, to extract social data from a social media campaign on, say Facebook, and cross-match it with a CRM system. But more interestingly, it's also possible to match existing CRM data with customer interactions on social media.

I don't know how many more times I can answer the same question from people. It usually goes something like this;

Social media wannabe: "Hey, are you on Pinterest yet?"

Me: "No! go away!"

Twitter at Six: Twitter goes mobile on its birthday
Gavin Sugden
21 March 2012, 10:38AM

TwiIt seems so natural to many people now, that it's a hazy memory of a time when it wasn't possible to catch up on the latest news stories or updates from celebrities on your mobile, in the same amount of time it takes to step off the tube, jump on the escalator and order a latte in the coffee shop next door. In the modern world people want information quickly and in an easily digestible format, and this helps to explain the growth in popularity of Twitter since its inception six years ago.

Does social media demand a new kind of agency?
Neil Kleiner
21 March 2012, 10:21AM

The continued rise of social media has forced any agency worth their salt to change and adapt. But I think the biggest change is yet to come.

It’s encouraging to see how much social media has forced our industry to take a long hard look at itself across all disciplines. Whether you are Creative, PR, Media agency or a community manager, seo specialist or creative director, your role or offering now is very different to what is was 2 years ago (or at least it should be).

A few weeks back everyone was talking about Highlight. A great networking tool that seems to have been the most talked about app at SXSW. (More on that later)

I’ve been playing with some Social Networking apps for a while and wanted to give some thoughts and show you some of the stand out ones.

About a month ago I posted a fab ad on my personal blog by British Airways called The Race. It resonated with me as I have been living in the US for a year now, will be missing the Olympics, and let's face it, I get a bit homesick now and again and this video got me all of a quiver!
